The first thought on my mind after reading through these articles was "how weird would I seem to a German?" They've made complaining their national passtime while I avoid complaining about anything and am usually quite stoic and an optimist. If I'm complaining about something you can bet it's many many times worse than what I make it out to be. For example: shattered my thumb, didn't tell anyone, and played football for one and a half months before the coach found out; tore my quad and still ran the 4x400m relay at a track meet; had good reason to believe my car had been stolen and my only reaction was "at least it's insured."
Now on to the staring. This one I understand a bit more because while I myself don't stare it is known among my friends that I make excessive and continous eye contact during every kind of communication, both verbal and nonverbal. Some of my friends have even commented on how it causes them slight discomfort. When I make eye contact I assume that some form of conversation is going to occur so if I ever find myself Germany I'll more than likely be starting said conversations with everyone I meet.
Since this is starting to feel a bit lengthy I'll keep from getting into the other articles any more than saying that I found them rivoting and with just the right amount of humor.
