For this AMD, since Ich konzentriere mich auf Musik vor meine studieren, ich hörte die Oper Arabella von Richard Strauss. Ich singe eine Arie aus der Oper, "Wenn aber das die Folge wär gewesen." Strauss' style of composition is extremely lush and Romantic, meaning a huge sweeping orchestra; it sounds very cinematic. I am trying more and more to listened to the words of the German music I enjoy or perform and translate or, even better, understand the words in German without much assistance form a dictionary, not unlike what we practice in class - trying to get the gist of things by guessing at words that sound familiar even though they might be in the nominative case. Anyway, the point is, it is surprising how much I can understand even after two months. It also makes me realize how important the little words are, the articles and conjunctions and question words, because they are the words that appear again and again. Take the first sentence of the aria - we know the first four words, when but the the, and wär is a form of waren, which we learned in the Janosch chapter 1, and gewesen is also a "to-be" verb - been so that just leaves Folge meaning result or consequences.
